Summary
Netflix has debuted the first teaser for Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
The upcoming season in the anthology series delves into the life of Ed Gein, a mild-mannered recluse whose gruesome crimes would ultimately redefine the American nightmare. Murphy noted that the show’s core question is whether “monsters are born or are they made,” believing that in Gein’s case, it’s a little of both.
Taking on the role of the Ghoul of Plainfield is Charlie Hunnam, who is joined by Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf and Suzanna Son in the main cast. Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill and Robin Weigert also star.
“I think this is the best season of the three, and I think it’s going to blow people’s socks off,” said Brennan.
Hunnam added, “This is going to be the really human, tender, unflinching, no-holds-barred exploration of who Ed was and what he did. But who he was being at the center of it, rather than what he did.”
Gein’s disturbing legacy has long influenced modern horror, serving as the blueprint for iconic fictional monsters in films like Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs.
