Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 10 Videos. This is a segment where we look at some exceptional visuals from various acts around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades, through the 90s and 2000s, and it has taken flight from multi-million dollar budget music videos to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but highlight some creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

Again, we promise to bring you the best from high to low budget, to animated to DIY and first and foremost, the most creative visuals we can source.

Kovey Coles – “4AM” ft. Trip Rexx & Davon Lavor

Producer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Kovey Coles connects with rappers Trip Rexx and Davon Lavor for his newest release “4AM.” The track has a smoky, soulful vibe with a headnodding groove underpinned by engaging verses from the rappers. The visual style blends performance shots with a cinematic feel and follows how office life gets turned upside down after a corporate mass dismissal.

 

 

EVolutionZ – “EVerything is EVerything”.

Rising Rochester, NY-based rapper EVolutionZ  returns to our visual playlist with his latest offering “EVerything is EVerything.” The track is the follow up to his third single, “Proud Of You,” and it continues his style of insightful and conscious style.  Backed by an upbeat and soulful backdrop, the rapper reminds us of the power of self-resilience and putting faith in God in all endevours. Armed with his comanding voice and raspy flow, the rapper show a masterclass in rekindling hope in all of us. The visual style is performative and captures EVolutionZ’s energetic demeanour in all its glory.

 

 

 

Daemon – “Bad Miracle”

Multi-faceted St. Louis artist Daemon caught our eyes and ears with “Bad Miracle,” a reflective and socially conscious track that explores inner struggles, search for redemption and the never-ending obstacles that lay in the way. Backed by the punchy Gospel-tinged backdrop courtesy of longtime collaborator Adrian, Daemon takes listeners deep into the action with engaging storytelling plus an action-poacked music video to close the deal. The Calvin Tigre-directed music video sees Daamon as a lone wolf, hellbent on taking revenge in the modern wild-wild-west and what occurs is a bloody showdown of epic porportions.

The track is taken from his debut album Euphonic, produced entirely by Adrian.

Exp., Frsh Waters & Maydien – “I.C.C.U.”

Exp. Share Records presents the third single “I.C.C.U.,” a hard-hitting track that pairs Frsh Waters (USA, from Pivot Gang) and Maydien (NL). The result is a solid showcase of lyricism from these emcees who know the assignment and they flow effortlessly over the hypnotic backdrop provided by producer/label owner Bertholet. The video shot and co-directed by Red Saga Films puts both emcees in the center as they face off with lyrical intensity.

All In (Quiz, Naj Ahngeaux, The Beat District) x Leah Writes – “Same Page”

“Same Page” is a collaboration between All In (Quiz, NajAhngeaux, The Beat District) and singer Leah Writes. The production flips a classic soul sample into a modern smooth R&B/hiphop jam that explores the early stages of a situationship and the slow growth of what can potentially turn into something more than a fling. The emcees deliver smooth performances ripe with adulations and recognition of what they are in for while Lea Writes threads it all together with a soul-stirring hook.  The visual is set in a private get together with friends and loved ones with the sunset in the horizon setting the mood nicely.

 

 

 

Luminiah – “chapter IV: solo (tough love)”

Berlin-based artist Luminiah returns to our site with “chapter IV: solo (tough love),” a heartfelt ballad about growth from spirit shattering situations. The track starts with a short spoken word piece before moving into a soothing piano-driven section underpinned by Luminiah’s mesmerizing vocal runs. On a deeper level, she digs deep intothe delicate topics of toxic relationships, co-dependency, the searhc for self-worth and never-ending questioning of one’s true purpose after betrayal and emotional backstabbing. Through the length of three minutes, Luminiah shows her progression with precise steps as we eventually hear her blossom and shine like sun after a cloudy rain. The accompanying visual is shot in documentary style, in black and white and uses set pieces that allude to self-healing and cutting loose anything that tries to anchor her spirit down.

 

 

Natalie Slade – “The Lesson”

Australian Soul/R&B vocalist Natalie Slade makes her debut on our playlist with “The Lesson.” The jazz/R&B/soul infused record is a heartwarming and soulful piece that explores the 2 sided notion of wanting love and being ready to let go of it for the sake of her peace. The drum groove have a bossa nova style to it and the layered guitar-piano combination compliments her light but soul-stirring vocal performance. The video was shot by Bruno Marion who opted for a fusion of performance and minimalist style that captures Slade’s unique classy style.
