fck being famous is a 5-track collaborative project that pairs DMV-raised producer Terrence Esquire Huggins and VA-based rapper Juiixe. The producer has successfully carved out a niche with his genre-bending production and collaborations with both rappers and singers over the years, but he is not resting on his laurels and continues to push the envelope on this new project.

With an unapologetic title like fck being famous, listeners might have a certain impression of what to expect, but the duo are simply going against the current trend of clout-chasing and superficial success in this social media-driven world. The first track, “Fine with me,” sets the stage with a clear message of integrity and clarity.  Over a soul/jazz-infused backdrop featuring soothing sax riffs and warm pads, Juiixe delivers concise bars with an expressive tone and sends a reminder with lines like “I have been rapping for a minute if they conversating on better flows, I bet I’m in it/See y’all just imitators but my flows you cannot mimic.” This is followed by “never quit,” featuring Emeka Bridges. The track is a solemn and reflective piece that speaks to the never-ending black struggle stemming from generational oppression, but rather than stewing in a victim mentality, Juiixe has taken his destiny into his own hands by taking action.  “Struggling to stay afloat, struggling to stay ahead/Struggling to say the shit we need to say like Lamar said, F everybody who don’t condone black people..” hits the nail on the head, and he further explains his stance with aspirational words, while Emeka Bridges adds his 2 cents to the topic. “wow” is a celebratory cut comprising dreamy textures that evoke nostalgia and bliss. The ethereal production serves as the perfect canvas for Juiixe’s heartfelt lyrics that touch on positivity and appreciation for life and the endless possibilities.

The last two tracks “meditate” featuring Cherell Terri and “dreaming big” help close out the project on different notes. The former is a R&B/hiphop cut that finds Juiixe waxing poetic about that special someone. He details her unique features and the calmness and peace she brings into his life. Singer/songwriter Cherell Terri embellishes the track with a sultry hook that ties it all together. “dreaming big”  highlights Juiixe’s melodic vocals and knack for penning insightful topics that listeners can relate to. From self-belief, internal validation and the effects of negative energies, Juiixe reminds us to stay the course, treat each other with empathy and kindness.

Overall, fck being famous is a brilliant but short project that listeners can easily digest. The topics deal with everyday struggles of the common man and the state of the modern world, so the lyrics are grounded. On the production side of things, Terrence Esquire Huggins crafts a variety of sounds that help glue Juiixe’s versatility and keep the entire project dynamic. From the slowed down classic drum break on “never quit” to the laid back soul-laden textures on “wow” and “meditate” or the bounce on “fine with me” and “never quit,” there is always something for everyone.
