Summary
Nintendo Switch 2 has officially become Nintendo‘s fastest-selling console, significantly outperforming its predecessor at launch.
According to Nintendo’s quarterly report for the first half of fiscal year 2026, released on November 4, the Switch 2 sold an impressive 10.36 million units globally from its June release through September 30. This figure is more than double the 4.7 million units sold by the original Switch during its comparable launch period. Sales were strong across all regions, with 3.68 million units sold in the Americas, 2.40 million in Europe, 2.35 million in Japan and 1.93 million in the rest of the world.
Due to overwhelming demand, Nintendo has already increased its initial fiscal year sales forecast from 15 million to 19 million units and is boosting console production for the upcoming holiday season. Industry observers suggest this revised forecast may still be conservative considering the current sales momentum.
Besides, Nintendo’s data also highlights significant brand loyalty among its customers, with 84% of Switch 2 buyers already owning an original Switch. Notably, over 25% of these repeat customers had purchased their initial Switch console when it launched in 2017.
