Summary
Steve Lacy officially announced his new album Oh Yeah? along with the release of its debut single “Nice Shoes.”
The three-minute track kicks off with a thumping beat and sharp, whistling synths. Lacy enters with nonchalant vocals before offering his more melodic take in the chorus. “Make it stop,” he repeats like a chant, followed by a quick portion of R&B/neo-soul before returning to the cut’s electronica base.
“Nice Shoes” is set to join Oh Yeah?, Lacy’s first album in three years. “When I first started making shit or producing stuff with [previous group] the Internet, I would always make the beat, make a hook, and just give it away,” he told Rolling Stone. “That was my process for a while, so words were always just kind of secondary. I’m like, ‘If my beat hard, this bass line hard, the chords hard, what else do we need?’ But now I’m like, ‘OK, I want to say shit how I would say shit.’”
