Christine Espinal knows what it means to build something bigger than herself. The Los Angeles-based spatial furniture designer brings interior imaginings to life, nurturing grand ideas from ideation to IRL creation. She formally trained at FIT and was a foundational member of Lichen, a Brooklyn-based interior design and furniture shop. When the designer isn’t curating a vibe through furniture or decor, you can find her working on large-scale spaces with clients.

In the same way that Espinal brings creative concepts to life, inZOI allows users to build their own distinct worlds. The life simulator game published by KRAFTON gives players abundant customization, collaboration and creation options. In the world of inZOI, every player is a “Zoi,” and each Zoi has the chance to shape their world as they envision, and experience a fully functioning community, living their lives at their own free will. Espinal teamed up with inZOI to build her own educational landscape, which offers a visual crash course on the aesthetics that inform her work in-game and beyond.

Spatial Designer Christine Espinal Uses inZOI to Build a Foundation to her Dream Live/Work Space

Using inZOI’s Build Studio, Espinal’s design preferences are recreated in her virtual live/work home, characterized by minimalist accents and clean lines, and also welcomes an abundance of natural light. In her daily work, Espinal prioritizes natural resources; her inZOI space is filled with plywood, earthy tones and comforting textures. The creative maintains that she prefers to work in calm spaces to keep her mind sharp, as her environment heavily influences her process. This hybrid live and work space echoes those preferences, and her touch is evident throughout the entire layout.

When she began her creation process, Espinal considered a space that functioned as both a living and working loft. “That’s my dream living situation right now,” she shared. “Once I got a sense of inZOI’s Build Studio tools and how to use them, it was very simple. I ended up making the space a bit more dynamic by making it multi-level, but still streamlined with my design style.”

While in-game, she noted that inZOI felt very intuitive and she appreciated its Build Studio’s wide range of customizable features. “I had a fun time uploading some of my favorite furniture pieces into the space. The 3D-printing feature makes this all possible, which allows us to bring our own images and designs to life as tangible objects in inZOI. It’s great how you can bring outside elements into the game, and it’s a cool place to escape,” she expressed. “You can create a little world and live virtually through your own Zoi — and designing Zois in the Character Studio is actually stunning.“

Espinal reflected on her creative process, sharing that she usually digitally renders all projects before getting started. As such, using inZOI’s Build Studio to create the foundation to her dream live/work home is a seamless way to integrate the designer’s practice into her Zoi’s loft. These customization features helped her create a space that brought her ideas and concepts into actuality, and other creatives can also jump into inZOI to build their own ideal home, workspace and more — streamlining their philosophies and sense of personality with inZOI’s in-game creative Build and Character Studios.
