Maxfli doesn’t just want to be that box of balls on the shelf anymore. The one that people see and remark to a friend “I used to play Maxfli back in the day.” First founded in Australia in 1922, the brand was later purchased by DICK’s Sporting Goods in 2008, but now Maxfli is well and truly back. Despite the longstanding tradition of the company once known for its Australian Blades and success at major championships, Maxfli’s director of product management Ray North told us definitively “This isn’t a heritage play.” Rather, it’s about making high performance golf equipment.

Alongside a reengineered tour golf ball played by Lexi Thompson and Ben Griffin, the XC2 and XC3 forged irons are the crown jewels of the new Maxfli offerings. They’re two sets which share a few visual cues allowing for easy combo set design, but at closer inspection are built for different players. The XC2 is the players distance iron, a forged set of clubs with the sleek profile of a blade but with the benefit of added forgiveness. This is achieved thanks to the ceramic insert behind the face, allowing weight to be redistributed for a more efficient strike.

On the other hand, the XC3 irons are forged from the same 1025 carbon steel while featuring a radiused sole and relieved leading edge for kinder turf interaction. A thicker topline and wider sole when compared to the XC2 creates the conditions for more stability and forgiveness.

Both sets of irons come in at $1000 USD and will be available exclusively in-store and online via DICK’S and Golf Galaxy come April 18.
