Summary

  • Maison Margiela launched the Tabi Collector’s Series with the ultra-limited Broken Mirror Embroidery edition (25 pairs), showcasing the Tabi’s iconic style under Creative Director Glenn Martens.
  • Each pair is hand-embroidered with over 8,000 glass beads and metallic fragments, reinterpreting a classic Margiela technique to simulate the look of aged, fractured glass.

Maison Margiela‘s split-toe Tabi style has become synonymous with the label, now headed by Belgian designer Glenn Martens. The former Y/Project lead has a penchant for the surreal, and his latest project for the avant-garde maison is no exception.

Today, Maison Margiela launched the first edition of an annual tribute to the style: The Tabi Collector’s Series. Limited to 25 pairs, the meticulously crafted Tabi boasts an archival Broken Mirror Embroidery across the entire upper. The cult-favorite shoe is reimagined with Margiela’s long-standing experimentation with metallic reflection and innovative craftwork.

The ‘Broken Mirror’ technique, originally produced in the AW15 Artisanal collection, has been translated into the three-dimensional form of the Tabi. The collection produced by Marten’s predecessor, John Galliano, interpreted the embellishment in varied garments, including a dress and an overcoat.

Each of the 25 Collector’s pairs is hand-embroidered and adorned with over 8,000 individually crafted glass beads, sequins, and laser-cut metallic fragments. Carefully arranged, the design captures the essence of naturally aged glass with unique depth. The brand noted that the new Tabi’s unique construction demands the precision of 11 dedicated artisans.

To further honor this craftsmanship, the house will release a film with Italian Director Yuri Ancarani, tracing the journey of the Tabi from concept to final, artistic form.

The Tabi Broken Mirror Embroidery will be displayed in selected stores starting October 30, 2025.
