Overview

  • Opening September 22, 2026 in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park, the long-awaited Lucas Museum of Narrative Art finally has its date. The billion-dollar, 300,000-square-foot landmark lands next to the Coliseum and USC with an 11-acre park for the city to share.
  • Architect Ma Yansong of MAD crafts the sleek, spaceship silhouette. Mia Lehrer and Studio-MLA shape the surrounding green space. Expect a rooftop garden, walking paths, and a public-first spirit baked into the campus.
  • Inside, there are 35 galleries across 100,000 square feet and a collection of more than 40,000 works. Names range from Frida Kahlo and Norman Rockwell to comic titans like Jack Kirby and Frank Frazetta, plus photography by Gordon Parks and Dorothea Lange.
  • The Lucas Archives bring models, props, concept art, and costumes from George Lucas’ film legacy. Two theaters, a library, a restaurant and café, retail, and classrooms round out the experience.
  • Co-founder George Lucas sums up the mission: “Stories are mythology, and when illustrated, they help humans understand the mysteries of life,”.
  • This is a major add to L.A.’s cultural corridor and a timely prelude to LA28. Expect a museum built for broad audiences, with accessibility and narrative art at the core.
