In a world where digital streaming currently dominates, Kirin Ichiban is going back to the basics. The premium Japanese beer brand brings its philosophy of purity and heritage craftsmanship to life through two exclusive listening sessions, teaming up with Deus Ex Machina’s music offshoot, Deus Records, and Japan’s legendary DJ Muro. With a limited-edition vinyl drop, exclusive streetwear merch and two exciting live sets, the collaboration is a celebration — through both sound and taste — of the ‘first-press.’

The events give Australian fans a rare chance to see DJ Muro live for the first time in twelve years. Known as the ‘King of Diggin,’ Muro has spent decades unearthing rare vinyl gems and curating unique sonic experiences. Now, he’s bringing that energy to Melbourne’s High Note on March 20 and Sydney’s Caterpillar Club on March 23, where attendees can experience an expertly curated set paired with ice-cold drinks. Both venues are known for their funky late-night vibes and acoustics, making them the perfect setting for Muro’s deep crate selections to come to life.

Vinyl lovers know that first-press records don’t compare to others when it comes to quality. Similarly, unlike other beers, Kirin Ichiban is brewed using only the first press of the wort — the liquid extracted during the brewing process. This yields the purest taste and achieves a light and refreshing flavour profile. But the brand’s commitment to the finest ingredients and highlighting Japanese craftsmanship extends beyond the bottle and listening sessions.

Through an exclusive drop with Deus Records, 500 copies of DJ Muro’s collector’s edition 12-inch vinyls are now available to win. The vinyls have been pressed at Tokyo’s Toyokasai Records, a plant that’s been producing some of the world’s best vinyl since 1959. Each includes an A and B side with two unreleased Muro tracks and selections from his WAON project, spanning disco, hip hop, funk and soul.

On top of that, Deus Ex Machina is also reworking its cult-favourite ‘Record Hunting Jacket.’ Originally crafted in Tokyo, the piece is now updated with Kirin Ichiban-branded press studs, custom illustrations on the arm sleeve and back pocket and a specially designed 12-inch pocket created to carry a fresh vinyl stack. A limited-edition t-shirt completes the capsule, nodding to the roots of first-press culture in both music and beer.

The exclusive Hunting Jacket, t-shirt and Muro vinyl won’t be available for purchase, making them strictly collector’s items for those lucky enough to score through the Kirin Ichiban Australian site.

DJ Muro’s Australian sets with Kirin Ichiban are open to the public, on March 20 at High Note in Melbourne and March 23 at Caterpillar Club in Sydney. Find out more information about the events here.
