By the 2030s, travellers from US cities like New York will be able to arrive in Tokyo in just one hour via outer space travel. Japan’s Nippon Travel Agency Co. announced that it will be offering this “point-to-point transport service” in partnership with Innovative Space Carrier Inc., a reusable rocket development startup.

The Mainichi reports that a round-trip service will cost a traveler ¥100 million JPY (approximately $657,000 USD). The vehicle will launch from an unspecified “offshore spot” and aims to connect “any two points on Earth” within just 60 minutes. Innovative Space Carrier Inc. president Kojiro Hatada hopes to lower the cost of travel by increasing the number of flights during each vehicle’s lifespan.

Although no specific details have been revealed, advance applications are set to open in FY26. The agency plans to unveil the program in phases, starting with space-food tasting and ground facilities tours in FY26. Stays in orbit are also proposed for the 2040s.

“We hope this business will be a new starting point to connect space travel and tourism,” Nippon Travel President Keigo Yoshida said at a news conference.
