Summary

  • Singaporean artist Jahan Loh is set to release a “POSTCARDS FROM SPACE 天山星::KEPLER-22B” toy on August 8
  • The figure is inspired by a painting included in Loh’s exhibition of the same name, staged at Le Freeport in Chengdu last fall

A follow up to his immersive, interplanetary-inspired POSTCARDS FROM SPACE in Chengdu last fall, Singaporean artist Jahan Loh is taking his iconic astronauts off the canvas in a new toy.

The figures are based on one of his large-scale paintings displayed at Le Freeport, which explored the concept of “interplanetary diaspora.” Here, Loh imagines a future where humans inhabit exoplanets or other celestial bodies. The body of work is rendered through a blends Eastern iconography, pop culture motifs, and sci-fi, making for unsettlingly surreal, digital-like compositions.

Titled after the fictional celestial body, KEPLER-22B, the toy features a girl-boy astronaut duo donning pink and white spacesuits with embroidered patterns blooming across the panels. The two figures stand, hand-in-hand, with what appears to be a lantern at their center.

Created in collaboration with XMASTERPIECE, each polystone sculpture is meticulously crafted, hand-painted and assembled by a team of artisans. The “POSTCARDS FROM SPACE 天山星::KEPLER-22B” toy will be available for purchase starting August 8. Head to CONT9CT’s website to pre-register now.
