Summary

  • Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding animated series, ISOLATIONS (working title), is set to release on Disney+ in 2027
  • The new anime series will feature 2D animation and tell a separate, original story set in the same universe as the original games

At the Disney+ Originals Preview event in Hong Kong today, Hideo Kojima confirmed the expansion of his acclaimed franchise into animation with DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS (working title). The series, set to release in 2027, marks Kojima Productions’ first partnership with a global streaming platform.

Serving as executive producer, Kojima will oversee the project alongside director Takayuki Sano of E&H Production, while illustrator Ilya Kuvshinov – known for Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 – provides original character designs. This announcement follows the success of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, released back in June this year and underscores the franchise’s growing multimedia presence.

Set within the universe established by the games, DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS will tell a completely new and separate story, focusing on the journey of a young man and woman dealing with their own struggles amidst humanity’s isolation. By focusing on fresh protagonists and utilizing top-tier animation talent, the series aims to delve into the franchise’s core concepts of social fragmentation and the desperate need for connection in a way only an animated format can achieve.
