Ferrari has revealed the latest bespoke creation from its exclusive Special Projects Programme, the SC40. This one-off model, built for a private client, is a stunning marriage of the cutting-edge 296 GTB platform with a powerful, unmistakable homage to the legendary Ferrari F40 supercar.

While the exterior styling looks to the 1980s, the SC40 is mechanically rooted in Ferrari’s most advanced contemporary technology. It shares its formidable powertrain with the 296 GTB: a 120-degree 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 654 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque on its own. That raw power is boosted by a compact axial-flux electric motor, which is strategically positioned between the engine and the eight-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission. The resulting combined hybrid power output climbs to a massive 819 horsepower, ensuring the SC40 delivers the blistering performance expected of a modern Ferrari coupé. On the car’s name, Ferrari said in a statement, “The car’s name pays tribute to the F40, the legendary Ferrari supercar unveiled in July 1987. The SC40 echoes its sharp, angular lines, which are skilfully combined with softer surface transitions, giving the car a contemporary feel and a strong, unmistakable identity.”

The design features a dramatic, long nose and a commanding, high-level fixed rear wing that extends vertically from the engine cover, instantly recalling the F40’s aggressive silhouette. Every detail serves the nostalgic theme, refined through a modern lens. The rear fascia is finished in open mesh to cool the engine, while the sides boast triangular carbon-fiber accents—a modern reinterpretation of classic NACA ducts. Inside, the cabin features motorsport-inspired materials like carbon — Kevlar and luxurious Charcoal Alcantara and red technical fabric.

The SC40 represents the pinnacle of Ferrari customization, successfully fusing the raw spirit of the F40 with Maranello’s most advanced contemporary technology. A styling buck of the unique car is now on display at the Ferrari Museum, giving enthusiasts a rare look into this singular piece of automotive art.
