A$AP Rocky is finally back with an album release after 8 years, and boy was the wait worth it. The rapper has officially dropped his most anticipated project Don’t Be Dumb nearly a decade after the release of his last album Testing, and it is jam packed with quality features across genres.
The album features 15 tracks with features like Doechii, Tyler, The Creator, Gorillaz, Bossman Dlow, Brent Faiyaz, Danny Elfman, Jessica Pratt, Slay Squad, Jon Baptiste, Thundercat, Westside Gunn & Will.I.Am. In keeping with the eccentric design and loud fashion choices, the album also boasts an artwork by Tim Burton. Not to mention the videos Rocky dropped, one after the other, raising the bar for visual language in hip hop.
Matter of fact, upon releasing the video for ‘Helicopter$,’ Rocky was met with instant (and baseless) backlash on the use of AI. But don’t be dumb; of course Rocky wasn’t going to be the one to entertain these rumors when he’s created visual masterpieces one after the other in the past (case in point: ‘Taylor Swif‘ video), and dismissed the speculation by claiming the video is simply ‘generational.’
Perhaps the same can be said for the album itself. It truly is a generational comeback for the rapper, with each song exploring genres without boundation, each sonic element interwoven with expertise and clear intent. Polished and fashionable, the LP is a proof that Rocky has not lost his edge just because he’s committed family man now. If anything, it has made him better. Check out the project for yourself here!
