Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez are currently in the process of finalizing a fight for this spring. According to ESPN, the two are expected to put on a show for a cruiserweight fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 3. Sources have also told the publication that it the cruiserweight limit is set at 200 pounds and will be expected to stream on Netflix.

The last time Paul fought, the social-media-star-turned-boxer fought the retired 58-year-old legend, Mike Tyson. While he won the bout in an eight-round decision and garnered 64 million concurrent streams on Netflix, Paul has yet to face-off against a world-class boxer. Albeit one of the sport’s top attractions, despite his novice skill level, the 28-year-old is now expected to compete at the highest level against Alvarez. Alvarez has been the unified champion at 168 pounds and is a former 175-pound champion.

Typically, Alvarez only fights twice a year — on Cinco de Mayo weekend and Mexican Independence Day weekend in September. It is uncertain if this fight against Jake Paul will affect his current agreement to fight against Terence Crawford in a Riyadh Season event on Mexican Independence Day weekend. The announcement of Alvarez v. Paul comes days after Alvarez v. Crawford was finalized. Back in November, Alvarez answered the question of possibility fighting Paul, to which he replied on the Full Send Podcast, “When I’m done with boxing [at the top level)], why not?”
