Nintendo and Illumination have released the latest trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, offering a first look at Mario’s beloved companion, Yoshi. The sequel follows the massive success of 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed $1.36 billion to become the fifth-highest-grossing animated film of all time.
The footage opens with Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) traversing the Sand Kingdom – a locale first seen in Super Mario Odyssey – on motorbikes. Tasked with clearing a blocked pipe deep within the region’s ancient Inverted Pyramid, the brothers navigate a trap-laden dungeon before discovering the green dinosaur hiding within the plumbing.
Yoshi first appeared in the 1990s Super Mario World and has since served as an essential, rideable ally known for his flutter-jump and egg-throwing abilities. His inclusion signals a deeper dive into Nintendo lore for the sequel, which is inspired by the 2007 Wii masterpiece Super Mario Galaxy.
