Sonic chameleon dreamcastmoe is not one to fit into boxes. It’s evident in his love for the mixtape as a superior format and throughout his discography, with musical leanings in funk, rap, R&B, soul, neo-soul, house, indie pop, and synthwave. His artistic fluidity, in part, comes from his mindset that musicians are eternal students in the game. But it’s also a testament to his eclectic ear and appreciation for music as a communal medium. Hypetrak Magazine met up with dreamcastmoe to talk The Lost Tapes, Vol 3. back in September. His feature interview appears in the 2025 issue, dedicated to Nueva Generaciones, a music initiative celebrating global artistry, powered by Corona® Extra. In his latest music video, the artist performs his throwback funk single “Leo,” originally released in 2018.

If sounds are like flavors, then the proud D.C. native is an innovator in the kitchen. His latest mixtape pays homage to his come-up and his friends and family members who have supported him throughout his career. These connections are laid bare on the record, yet on tracks like “Flowers,” “Couple Plays,” and “At Molly’s Request,” his signature humor and optimism shine through. Now that his passport’s unlocked, he’s a bona fide performer, with various festivals and tours under his belt. In March, he performed alongside the late Roy Ayers, and later in the year, teamed up with Boldy James on the single “Come Back Around.”
“My music is rooted in my experience, but the emotions behind it — joy, loss, growth — those are universal…if you’re searching for something honest, I hope my music finds you,” he shares with Hypetrak Magazine. “D.C. shaped me, but the sound is meant to travel.” Vol. 3 amalgamates these influences, pushing the bounds of his lyricism and chameleon-style production. Across the mixtape, dreamcastmoe bends and contorts his flow like a vocal acrobat.
