Planta Industrial are whatever the hell they want to be. They sonically shape shift, and their fashion and demeanor on stage fluidly incorporate cultural references with ease. Hypetrak Magazine caught up with the artists during an intimate live performance for Nueva Generaciones, a music initiative powered by Corona® Extra that celebrates global artistry and the rhythms that invite us to connect. In their latest music video for “Oi,” the duo showcase why they’re paving the sound of the Nueva Generación.

It’s no secret that punk is making a comeback. Call it a recession indicator, but the kids are up to no good. Planta Industrial are punk in spirit. Imagine filtering bachata, reggaeton and dembow through a Y2K-built deathcore portal. It’ll spit out “Anormales,” “Teteo in the Bronx,” or the group’s crowd surfing anthem “Oi.” These singles rattle, bang and clink with electric static, with equally charged lyrics that showcase Aka the Dark and Saso in their element. “People have mixed rock, rap, and hip-hop — but never from two Dominicans from the Bronx,” Saso shares with Hypetrak Magazine.

The bridge in “Oi,” “**** you, pay me,” is singlehandedly a generational battle cry and a brawny reminder to not mess with fellas from the Bronx. But Planta Industrial is also representative of the Dominican Republic — its culture, sounds and unique flavors. Their post-punk take on bachata and reggaeton is hard to define, but that’s the point. They are raw energy, and when they choose to let loose, genre is merely suggestive. “We’re very much tapped in with the culture as it grows, develops, and evolves,” Aka shares with Hypebeast. “Because of that, we’re really true to what we’re doing.”

Champions of NYC’s Latinx communities (and bodegas) and the DR, their authenticity is felt in more ways than one. And for what’s to come, the boys are hellbent on soundtracking the future of music on their own terms.
