Summary
Wild Cherry, the new restaurant from independent film studio A24, brings a cinematic sensibility to New York’s West Village, pairing intimate dining with the cultural legacy of the century-old Cherry Lane Theatre. This venture is part of A24’s wider project since acquiring the century-old Off-Broadway venue in 2023, effectively merging cinema and cuisine under the banner of the independent studio.
Operated by chefs Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr, the team behind Frenchette, Le Rock and Le Veau d’Or, Wild Cherry offers a supper club atmosphere where refined cocktails, natural wines and a contemporary menu complement the theater’s programming of film, music and live performance.
The design of Wild Cherry reflects A24’s signature understated aesthetic, blending nostalgia with subtle glamor. Created by designer Zeb Stewart, the 45-seat dining room features deep green banquettes, limewashed walls and a slatted ceiling that casts a moody glow. Chequerboard floors and funfair-style bulbs nod to retro diners, while a striking 12-seat horseshoe bar anchors the space, encouraging conviviality. The result is a layered environment that feels both cinematic and intimate, echoing the theatre’s history while offering a fresh, contemporary setting.
The menu is equally considered, balancing raw delicacies with hearty classics. Guests can begin with oysters, tuna crudo or whole dressed crab before moving to dishes such as a lobster club, roasted monkfish kebab, or a cheeseburger with confident flair. Larger plates include a steak for two, served with baked potato, green salad, and a swirl of soft-serve, while desserts like coconut cake provide a gentle finale. Drinks range from classic cocktails to natural wines, with the standout Scorpion Bowl, served in vintage Murano glass, adding a theatrical flourish.
