Summary
Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have officially set the release date for the highly anticipated Hello Kitty feature film for July 21, 2028. The announcement was made on October 29 via Instagram, where Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema posted a reel with the caption “Hello Hollywood” and the character’s iconic pink ribbon emoji.
The English-language Hello Kitty feature film project was first revealed by New Line Cinema in 2019, marking the first time Sanrio had licensed film rights for the beloved character. While it’s currently unknown if Kitty will speak in the film, she has remained silent in previous animated series due to her lack of a mouth. Given that Sanrio has also licensed rights for other characters such as Gudetama, My Melody, and Little Twin Stars, their appearance alongside Hello Kitty wouldn’t be surprising.
According to a studio statement, “The film marks Hello Kitty’s Hollywood theatrical debut as Hello Kitty and her friends embark on a cinematic adventure sure to delight audiences of all ages.”
This exciting news follows the beloved IP’s 50th anniversary last year. The anniversary was celebrated with various collaborations, including special edition items with brands such as UNDERCOVER, Crocs, adidas, UNIQLO and G-SHOCK.
