Summary

  • Yamaha unveiled the MOTOROiD2 concept, an electric motorcycle prototype featuring AI image recognition and AMCES self-balancing technology
  • The design is intentionally lifelike and futuristic, with a translucent bodywork and a unique Leaf structure that allows for responsive, fluid movement
  • The concept serves as a testbed for technology intended to create a closer, more harmonious human-machine relationship in mobility

Yamaha is once again pushing the boundaries of human-machine interaction with the unveiling of the MOTOROiD 2 concept. More an experimental design study than a conventional motorcycle, this electric prototype represents a major evolution of Yamaha’s quest for “Jin-Ki Kanno” the blissful sensation of being one with your machine.

The key to the MOTOROiD2 is its integration of robotics and artificial intelligence. It features Yamaha’s refined AMCES (Active Mass Center Control System) self-balancing technology, which allows the bike to autonomously stand up, move, and maintain balance without a rider. Adding to its lifelike quality, the machine utilizes AI image recognition to identify and respond to its owner’s face and gestures, following them like a loyal, metallic companion.

Visually, the MOTOROiD2 is stunningly futuristic. Its exposed chassis and hub-driven rear wheel are accented by a translucent bodywork and integrated blue mood lighting, giving it an organic, almost sentient presence. Its unique Leaf structure and pivoting swingarm allow the rear half of the bike to move independently, lending its movements a creature-like grace. While currently a concept, the MOTOROiD2 showcases technology that may soon be applied to everyday scooters, increasing stability and accessibility for all riders.
