Summary:
Jan Håfström’s art practice has explored a wide range of mediums over the course of his 50-plus-year career. The Swedish artist has created abstract paintings, sculptural pieces, and film works. Now, however, the renowned artist’s work is taking on a new, wearable form. He has co-created a streetwear-inspired capsule collection in collaboration with Swedish clothing brand A Day’s March.
This is the second time the pair has collaborated. Yet, while their first collection centered on Håfström’s alter ego, Mr. Walker, this capsule focuses on a single painting as the foundation for the design. The starting point is a key work Håfström created between 1967 and 1968, titled Skogen (The Forest).
The painting, that is currently on view at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, depicts a forest scene with vibrating tree forms, their trunks surrounded by rich, textural flora in deep greens and browns. “Skogen is another world. A place I once visited and to which I return in my dreams. One could call it a lost world, but for that very reason, it is so mysterious and alluring,” Håfström says, reflecting on the piece.
Skogen now takes on new life across limited-edition garments and objects. The Foliage Mohair Cardigan and Foliage Cotton Silk Scarf interpret the painting’s abstract foliage pattern, mirroring its reverence for nature. The materials – 100% mohair for the cardigan and a silk/cotton blend for the scarf – carry the piece into a new tactile realm.
Selected elements from the painting have also been transformed into a Realtree-style camouflage pattern, printed on a sand-colored base. This design appears on pieces such as the Realtree Overshirt, Realtree Trousers and Realtree Tote Bag. Other foundational items like the Skogen Long Sleeve T-shirt, Skogen T-shirt, Skogen Tote Bag, and Skogen Silk Cotton Scarf also take inspiration from the outdoors.
Additionally, the capsule includes the Skogen Scented Candle, inspired by the scent of Skogen, and the Skogen Plaid Wool Throw. As a unique touch, the collection also features a small, strictly limited number of hand-forged forest axes from Gränsfors Bruk, each individually finished by the artist.
The full collection is available now, exclusively at A Day’s March flagship store on Kungsgatan 3 in Stockholm and online via the brand’s website.
