RIAA Surprises Anthony Hamilton with Career Plaque Applauding 14.5M Gold & Platinum Milestones.

The Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA) this week presented GRAMMY Award-winning R&B singer/songwriter Anthony Hamilton with a plaque commemorating multiple Gold & Platinum hits tallying 14.5 million certified units in the US alone, including the new 2x Platinum single “Charlene” and Platinum album Comin’ From Where I’m From, among others. RIAA President & COO Michele Ballantyne alongside Chairman & CEO Mitch Glazier surprised the North Carolina Music Hall of Famer, who The Los Angeles Times has called a “national treasure,” following a panel during the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference festivities in DC.

Michele said, “always finding ways to show and tell the world his perspective through song, written word or film, Anthony Hamilton has captivated an array of audiences. RIAA is thrilled to recognize just part of what that means – 14.5 million in sales/streams in the US! This represents the multiple Gold & Platinum singles, albums and collaborations your fans ‘can’t let go!’”

The evening featuring a DJ set by Mad Skillz was also a powerful reminder of how Black voices shape culture – from music, film and even self-publishing a book called Cornbread, Fish ‘n Collard Greens! – Anthony has made his indistinguishable one known. Anthony fittingly spoke on the panel moderated by SoundExchange’s Sean Glover with Robert Glasper (Artist & Composer, Luther: Never Too Much); Nat Adderley, Jr. (Music Director & Songwriter) and Leah Smith (Producer, Luther: Never Too Much) about one of the most iconic voices in R&B and soul music – Luther Vandross. Further showcasing his influence, Anthony covered “Superstar” on his latest album LOVE IS THE NEW BLACK.
