BMI was saddened to learn of the passing of Sidney “Omen” Brown at the age of 49. A gifted and sought-after producer, Omen was a New York City native who rose to prominence in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s producing records by artists like Memphis Bleek and Amil for pioneering hip-hop label, Roc-A-Fella. Word of mouth quickly spread of Omen’s studio skills, earning him further work on releases by Fabolous, Mya and Keith Murray. By 2002, Omen branched out into film-scoring, handling the music for the Roc-A-Fella/Universal Pictures movie, Paper Soldiers. By the middle of that decade, Omen won his first GRAMMY Award for his contributions to Ludacris’ album Release Therapy.
Omen enjoyed further triumphs in the 2010’s, when through his associations with fellow producer Noah “40” Shebib, Omen landed production jobs for industry heavyweights Lil Wayne and Drake. These successes also led to him being recruited as a producer, programmer, lyricist and composer for the track “Mine” by Beyonce in 2013.
Sidney “Omen” Brown will be missed by his friends, fans and family at BMI.
