A live-action adaptation of Sakamoto Days has been officially confirmed via a newly launched film website and dedicated social accounts, announcing that Yuto Suzuki’s manga – recently adapted into an anime – will be brought to the big screen. The production unveiled a striking key visual of protagonist Taro Sakamoto that captures a defining moment from the series: the rotund assassin calmly eating instant noodles while using chopsticks to block a bullet — a tableau that frames the film’s blend of domesticity and sudden violence.

Popular actor and J-pop idol, Ren Meguro, has been cast as Taro Sakamoto and will portray both the character’s chubby and slim iterations. Production notes confirm the oversized appearance is achieved with SFX makeup and prosthetics, a process that requires roughly four hours of preparation before filming every day. The casting and effects approach aim to preserve the character’s iconic silhouette while allowing Meguro to play the role’s physical contrasts on screen.

Yuichi Fukuda will direct the film, with Keiya Taguchi supervising action choreography. Fukuda is known for his genre-savvy, comic adaptations, which included the acclaimed Gintama live-action films, was widely hoped for by fans when news of a live-action Sakamoto Days first surfaced.

The film is scheduled to premiere in Japan during Golden Week in spring 2026. In the meantime, checkout the character teaser below.
