Summary
After much deliberation on whether or not he’d even return to the Broken Hearts series, Destroy Lonely has unveiled the highly anticipated third installment in the mixtape sequence. Entitled </3³, the Opium rapper’s sixth mixtape in his growing discography is a testament to his current, top-level standing in the rap zeitgeist, while also a proper reflection on his past and what it took him to get here.
Spanning 18 tracks in total, Broken Hearts 3 hears Lone look back on his original sound, reconnecting with a lineup of pivotal producers from his early-career days. Clayco, Cxdy, Cade, and Bugz Ronin all contribute to production throughout the project, all key figures in shaping the rapper’s OG sonic composition.
A primarily solo endeavor, the one feature on the tracklist comes from labelmate Ken Carson on the seventeenth track, “open it up.” Each of the songs on the lineup – including singles “not the mayor” and “jumangi” – blends easily into the next, delivering a smooth listening experience.
Landing over five years after its predecessor, Broken Hearts 2, the deluxe edition of September 2020’s Broken Hearts, </3³ also arrives just in time for Lone’s appearance on Playboi Carti‘s Antagonist Tour, kicking off in October.
