Grand Marnier®, the iconic blend of fine cognac and orange liqueur, extends its partnership with multi-platinum hip-hop artist, Future, to present a new experience, DS2 REMIXED: THE BALLET. On September 19th, this one-night-only performance starring Future will reimagine the icon’s seminal ‘DS2’ album through the lens of contemporary ballet, choreographed by Emmy winner Ebony Williams. Known for her groundbreaking work with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet as the company’s first Black American female dancer and for her performance in Beyoncé’s iconic “Single Ladies” video, Williams is the perfect visionary to mark the first major ballet adaptation of this kind.
DS2 REMIXED: THE BALLET will take place at BAM, a 166-year-old institution that stands at the cultural intersection of New York’s hip-hop heritage and artistry. Grand Marnier chose BAM for its legacy of championing Black artistic expression and because the institution’s evolution from classical traditions to boundary-pushing contemporary work mirrors the brand’s own journey from traditional cognac house to cultural innovator. For Future, bringing his Atlanta trap masterpiece to Brooklyn – home to hip-hop legends like Jay-Z and Biggie Smalls – creates a powerful convergence of regional hip-hop movements that honors their shared revolutionary spirit.
“DS2 changed the game for me,” says Future. “A decade later and you still feel that energy everywhere. To see a mixtape I made turned into a ballet with Grand Marnier, right here in NYC? That’s different. That’s legendary.”
At BAM’s Howard Gilman Opera House, audiences will witness ‘DS2’ transformed through the movements of world-class Black ballet performers, with custom costumes by acclaimed designer LaQuan Smith, whose bold, high-glamour aesthetic will bring a modern, fashion-forward edge to the stage, bringing to life the cultural fusion that defines both Brooklyn and Grand Marnier.
“This is the kind of bold work that truly excites us because it creates an organic opportunity for authentic engagement, audience cultivation, and to grow our ever-evolving community,” says Mari Ogino, BAM’s Director of Corporate Strategy. “We’re proud to partner with Grand Marnier on this landmark performance that so beautifully fuses innovation with representation.”
The cultural impact extends beyond the performance itself, with 10% of proceeds benefiting BAM’s Free Music Program, a seasonal series spotlighting global artists across genres that provides free and accessible music experiences for the Brooklyn community.
“This imaginative fusion of hip-hop and ballet represents something fundamentally true about our brand philosophy,” shares Sonia Lessuck Pirolo, Category Marketing Director for Cognacs and Champagnes at Campari America. “Just as DS2 broke the mold of conventional rap a decade ago, Grand Marnier has always existed at the intersection of tradition and disruption. This performance does exactly that with two seemingly disparate art forms, creating a cultural moment that honors the heritage of both while fearlessly pushing creative boundaries. Together with BAM, Brooklyn’s historic home for artistic innovation, we’re excited to invite a new generation to experience how powerful it can be when we dare to remix legacy, ultimately making moments truly grand.”
