Featuring a collection of recent fan favourites alongside unreleased material, the twelve-track project sees the legendary duo build on their 20th-anniversary celebrations across 2023 and a busy start to 2024 with their eleventh studio album, set for release via Blaufield Music on 7th June 2024.
Legendary GRAMMY-nominated duo Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger, aka Booka Shade, will release their eleventh studio album, ‘Link To The Invisible’, on 7th June 2024 via their home label Blaufield Music, with the twelve-track project revealing the latest evolution of the German pairing’s melodic-driven sound.
An iconic act within the global realm of house and techno, Kammermier and Merziger have carved out a reputation as one of the most celebrated electronic acts to emerge from Europe over the past two decades – from their seminal releases in the 90s and early 00s through to their ever-evolving live show, which earned them credits including being named amongst Resident Advisor’s Top 5 live acts in the world – with performances spanning Coachella to Glastonbury, Red Rocks to Montreux Jazz Festival. Other accolades include iconic productions such as ‘In White Rooms’ and ‘Body Language’, tracks that have stood the test of time, while receiving a GRAMMY nomination for their much-loved studio album, ‘Dear Future Self’.
Continuing to showcase, craft and expand upon their signature sound, retaining the trademark elements while shaping their productions for their live performances to captivate fans both new and old, the duo celebrated a significant milestone in their famed journey last year with the 20th anniversary of the project, combining both new music alongside a selection of curated remixes of Booka Shade classics to offer up a time capsule of their sound both past and present. However, not bathing and basking in past achievements and continuing to keep things moving, their recent studio explorations have seen the pair unveil a string of two-track projects via their home label, Blaufield Music – all leading into their next major project and studio album.
“After more than twenty years of Booka Shade, we’re still wondering if we can still do what we love so much and have fresh ideas for new music. It is always difficult to explain where the inspiration comes from, but when it hits us, we definitely feel the ‘link to the invisible’…” – Booka Shade.
‘Link To The Invisible’ is another quintessential Booka Shade offering while providing those fresh touches and new elements that their global fanbase has become accustomed to within the ‘modern era’ of the project. Recent singles such as opening tracks ‘Moonbow’ and ‘Wild Life’ alongside ‘The Sun’ with Gab Rhome provide those delicately balanced, melodic and vocal-driven journeys, while tracks such as the sci-fi influenced ‘Metropolis’ and the driving ‘Push Me’ usher in new sounds and influences spanning the house and techno realm.
Alongside a collection of recent highlights, the project also brings a wealth of new, unreleased material. ‘Fragile Things’ is dreamy and nostalgic, floating amongst delicate textures and hazy leads, while ‘Reminiscence’ merges hypnotic textures with subtle melodies for an exciting ride. The excellent ‘Plans For The Weekend’ brings yet more resonant synth work and intricately programmed percussion arrangements for a blooming and wandering trip, while ‘The Player (Reprise)’ harnesses the lead melody of the original and closes out the show with a euphoric dive into movie-soundtrack and film score territories, loaded with emphatic sound design.
Loaded with distinctive touches while offering something new for listeners, ‘Link To The Invisible’ is yet another testament to the longevity and ever-unfolding journey of the Booka Shade journey.
