Summary
FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release of the acclaimed action RPG, has been delayed from its planned 2025 launch to 2026 in order to improve performance and optimization. The special edition will include the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, along with new armor sets and customization options for Torrent, the player’s spectral steed.
Originally announced as a way to bring the landmark title to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware, the delay reflects the studio’s commitament to ensuring the game meets technical and gameplay standards on the new platform. Reports indicate that the technical struggles were particularly noticeable during world exploration, suffering from “significant” frame rate drops when moving the camera outside of the tutorial area.
Given the immense success of the original Elden Ring, which quickly surpassed 12 million global sales shortly after its February 2022 launch, FromSoftware is keen to ensure a high-quality experience. The studio has apologized to fans for the delay and thanked them for their “patience and support,” confirming they need more time to focus on improving the technical aspects of the port. The Tarnished Edition will also feature new armor and customization options for the spirit steed Torrent.
